Blog Insights #20 The Long & Short of It! By Sadje
Questions
1. Do you prefer writing long form or short form content?
This is going to be a kind of strange answer. First, when I see a challenge for a lot of words I don’t delete it, but I don’t start working on it either.
However, I have noticed that when a writing challenge is a subject that interests me I will just begin writing. When I am finished I am amazed at how many words I actually used.
So, I guess the answer for short form is yes and the answer for long form is yes and no.
2. How long, in your opinion, is the ideal blog post?
To be honest I’m not sure the length actually matters, to me anyway. What seems to make me start and finish reading, is white space.
If I see a post title that interests me and I look to start reading if I see a mile block of writing I move on to something else. I never go back and read the post. Now if I see a mile of writing and it has breaks throughout the article I will begin reading and read until finished.
The only reason I would stop, is if the post was not what I was expecting and decide I’m not interested.
3. What do you prefer reading, shorter or longer posts?
Oops, looks like I have partially answered this in question #2. Short—I read if it is a subject that interests me. Long—Depends on subject matter and openness of post.
4. What are the topics on which you would like to read longer posts (say, more than 1000 words)?
This is a little hard to answer. Sometimes there will be a post I wouldn’t I’d be interested in reading. However, the blogger phrases the subject in such a way that peaks my interest,
For the sake of argument I like; true stories, ghost stories(true is best), post by people who are experiencing the same things I am, and articles having to do with medical issues I am dealing with, and some fiction. On going stories.
