Questions Of The Nosy Variety by Judy Dykstra-Brown

1. Tell us how you met your partner. Please be specific in telling your tale.

I met my current spouse(married 14 years and together 16 years)online. On day in March 2004 I saw an email in my inbox with the subject of roughly “I’m going to go out on a limb and send you an email and see if you respond.

I remember highlighting the email with my mouse pointer hovering on the delete button. I’m not sure why I didn’t delete since I didn’t recognize the email address. I think it had something to do with the “going out on the limb” part of the comment.

I’m don’t really remember what it said but it was obviously intriguing since I sent a response. I think I said something along the line of I will met youn on the limb and send you a response, or something like that.

When I responded the next email he sent me told me that if I hadn’t responded when I did he was going to cancel his AOL account the next day.

From there we started chatting online everyday when my kids were at school, at their Dad’s, or in bed. He took all my answers from any questions he had asked. One day when I got home from work there were flowers waiting for me…..I was shocked. We met in person at a local park on April 4, 2004. We moved in together with my 2 boys(8 & 10) and one of his son’s(17 his other son 15 lived w/ his ex in TN)near the end of December and were married January 1, 2006.

Obviously, we are still together, are kids in their 20’s & 30’s.

2. What is your most romantic experience, again with details?

Un fortunately, I already answered this above w/ the unexpected flowers. I will elaborate a little. He was talking to me as I drove home from work that day. He never gave a clue he had any secrets planned. We hung up when I was in my driveway since it was kid time until they went to bed.

I unknowably meandered into my Mom & Pop’s house(where I was living at the time) and my kids’ rushed out talking about flowers in my room. I obviously had no idea what they were talking about as I gave them both a kiss. They started dragging me to my room to show me…lol Well, needless to say I was shocked and as I read the card, I think it said something like I ca’t wait to meet you and his name.

Needless to say I called and surprisingly thanked him and talked for a bit. You might be surprised to know he answered on the first ring of his phone..haha

3. What is the most extravagant purchase you’ve ever made, and why did you buy it?

I bought a Circut bundle. I bought it when I was just getting started into my card making and crafting obsession. I bought it because my husband felt like I should have one because they looked like they helped you make neat things. He had to talk me into the purchase saying I deserved it….he is so sweet.

I sold it many years later as I just couldn’t get the hang of using it and it was taking up a lot of space.

4. What is your favorite swear word or expression, and when are you most likely to use it?

Hmm I don’t really have a favorite swear word. However, when I get mad or someone is irritating me I can swear w/the best sailor and care less who hears.

5. What is your favorite kind of pie? With or without ice cream?

Apple pie with the crunchy things is my favorite, but A top pie crust is fine too. Without ice cream.

6. While we’re on the subject, what is your favorite ice cream, and where did you last eat it?

My favorite Baskin Robbins’ ice cream is chocolate chip. If I get it from the grocery store it is cookie dough ice cream.

7, Who is your most unique friend and why? (May be someone from the past.)

My most unique friend was probably Hope. We were different / but alike. She is the friend I had when we were old enough to go to clubs. This was before I met my husband. Neither one of us drank alcohol, but we liked music, playing pool, darts and of course meeting guys.

When I met my husband I stopped doing all of that.

8. What is your most irritating habit?

Well, it used to be atrocious snoring, but I have a Bipap now. The Bipap, put an end to that. Now I guess it would be not wanting to cook anything since my boys moved out. I must say my husband handles it well.

9. Who was your favorite teacher and why?

Shoot. I can’t think of his name right now, but he was my psychology professor in my first semester in college.  He made everything so interesting . The examples he would give when trying to explain a body coping skill or anything else really.

10. Do you like being alone and if so, what would you probably be doing?

for medical reasons I have not worked since 2007. I’m alone a lot, and hate it. If I did not have mt two dogs I would probably be nuttier than I am now. Now a days I would be working on my blogs, practicing drawing / crafts or making cards.

Sometimes in early morning I will do light flower gardening. I cannot be out long due to my back and other issues.

11. What is the most outlandish thing you’ve ever done?

Well, unfortunately I know I did some stupid things. I’m glad my mind due to medicine or whatever won’t let me remember what I did yesterday. Sorry, no fun story on this question.

12. What superstition do you always follow?

I’m not superstitious, but I will not play a scratch off lottery ticket unless I have a quarter.

13. What famous person or animal have you met? Tell us about the meeting.

I have never met a famous anything. This is absolutely true.

    • Your welcome and I like true life stories as well. A Crichton is a electronic die cutting machine and it came w/ a few cartridges and extras to make the price seem better…

      • Did it cut paper, metal or leather? What were you making? I had a 20 ton press that I could use with shearing dies.. I loved it. Couldn’t justify bringing it with me to Mexico, though.

      • You could cut, paper, Vinyl, leather, I think material(not positive), It could cut a wide range of thing. I can’t quite remember now. Depending on the cartridges or images you purchased it would cut many parts of a design so you could make them different color. You could make images for cards, mixed media. You could really do anything with the images you cut after you layer them.

      • Oh..no. I meant paper cuts that come from running the edge of a piece of paper across your skin by accident…Often a problem when working with paper..This was before I knew what your machine was.
