Whats(in) The Picture—Heron by Chris BreeBaart
Why Oh Why Has She Not Returned?
She said she was just going to come to the water for a fish or two. Why did she not come back yet? It should not have taken her so long to catch a couple of fish. Oh dear, is that an alligator I see?
Yup, that’s and alligator. This is not good at all. I don’t see her anywhere on the water’s edge. Oh dear, not good, not good at all. I hate alligators.
How am I to go on alone(gray herons’ mate for life)She is my best friend, we have raised many eggs together, we always walk the grounds together…..sigh
The gray heron paced the water’s edge back and forth. H was pacing so much he wore a rut in his pace line. As it was getting later and later he became more distressed. He began his sorrowful call to his mate, never hearing anything but silence in return.
The heron began walking over the grounds. As he slowly retraced their typical route he continued repeating his sorrowful, heartbreaking call.

I know right?? As soon as I saw the heron standing by the water it made me think of the time a heron(one of a pair) was eaten by an alligator by where a friend of mine lives. I was compelled to tell the plight of the remaining half. My friend had told me how sad it was since she knew he(could have been a she , not sure)lost his mate and spent his time mourning. So sad. For the heron and any animal lover for that matter. I hope you have a nice week.
