WordPress Editors
I had been using the classic editor for approximately the last 2 years. Then switched when told they were ditching it June 1, 2020.
I contacted their online chat tonite for assistance. There were a couple of things I was having a greater amount difficulty figuring out.
Long story short. If you liked / loved the Classic Editor you CAN still use it. I was told it was going to be around a long while.
Hitch. I was told that WP was not going to continue to develop the Classic Editor. They would only be developing new functionality for the Block Editor.
So, that leaves me with inner turmoil. Should I go back to the Classic Editor I loved? Should I continue to fumble futz my way around with the Block Editor?
Can’t anything ever be easy…sigh??

I’m sticking with the Classic editor mainly because I use an iPhone for my blog and there’s simply not enough screen real estate on an iPhone to effectively use the Block editor. Perhaps if I were using a laptop instead of an iPhone, I might be more open to switching.

I hear you I have a MacBook, but I only log into it in the morning so that it keeps everything synced. When it bites the dust I doubt I will be replacing it. I uses my iPhone and my iPad Pro. I find it ironic as before the iPhone I used to strictly use a laptop(Windows) Sometime I am tempted to a Samsung, but I just can’t quite do it since all my apple products easily sync. Have a nice day.

My wife, daughter, and son all have Android smartphones, but I’m sticking with my iPhone.

Just out of curiosity is there any particular reason?

My son has always been very pro Google and very anti-Apple, although I don’t know why. He was able to persuade my wife and daughter to switch to Android, Google’s mobile OS, but I’m a stubborn old coot and see no reason to switch. So I’m sticking with Apple and iPhone.

I appreciate your having that conversation. I’ve tried the new editor twice, and so far I don’t like it. I tend to write my work elsewhere and then cut and paste the posting. So far, I’ve found I can’t do that with the new editor. For one thing, all the spaces made by the enter (return) key don’t carry over. And when I try to add the space in WordPress, I get an option to enter something else into the work but not an enter space, say, between paragraphs or stanzas. Until I can do that basic thing, I’ll have to stay with the classic editor. Sigh.

Hi for all my blogs I loved the old classic editor and was totaly dismayed when we were forced to go to the block editor. However, I am now finding the block editor a more powerful tool. Especially when you want to reorder your paragraphs. Stick with it, it’s only because it is new. I am today going to venture into the resuable blocks on my photography blog.. I hope they work as I hope they will do.

Yes, you are right. Normally I’m fine with figuring out something knew. But trying to do that on a blog that people see everyday is a little different. I am finding that unless I am missing something I do not like the way the word count is working. I also wish I could give a link I want to use a smaller name rather than have it place the entire IP name in the post.
When talking to WP I don’t think they always read your question entirely before they give you an answer.I try to use the help and the information given for learning the new editor, but it is frustrating when you can’t fine what you want to know.
I figured once I switched my blogs to the block editor it would be unrealistic to switch back. Even though i momentarily considered going backwards. However, have to keep moving forward, right? I hope you have a nice day.

When creating links, type your short version and then highlight it and then click the link button and place in the url and click enter and then the url won’t be the url just the short words you want.
Hope this helps you … https://weeklyprompts.com/2020/05/31/part-three-a-guide-to-the-block-editor/
