Blogging Insights #34 Reading by Salted Caramel

Question

  1. Do you think that reading is an important prerequisite for writing well? If so, what kind of reading material inspires or affects your writing?

Perhaps reading is not imperative to write well, but you unconsciously learn a lot from reading. I don’t have the attention span for reading like I did before all of my medical conditions started taking root.

In the past I used to read a few books a week. Of course how many was determined on how good and how long they were, but I was a relatively fast reader before. I would read just about anything, although romance was low on my list.

One thing I hated doing was starting a book and not finishing it. Even if it was like pulling teeth because I did not really like the read. I know it’s kind of anal, but it was like a self-challenge.

I also loved to see what page I could try and guess a killer or bad guy on. Then I would see if I was right or wrong when I got to the end of the story. I also enjoy(ed) reading nonfiction. I would have to say they all influence my writing.

I ❤️ love to hear your thoughts so Please feel free leave a comment, opinion, or feedback.
