Dances Through Water

The day was a scorcher. Not only was it hot, but the humidity made it feel like you were trying to make your way though a swamp. There is no doubt that the “feels like” temperature was much greater than than the actual number shown.

As Cheryl walked through downtown she saw that the arched fountain was on. The city created this fountain and turned it on when there was a heat index warning. Their hope was that even if adults wouldn’t use it that they would allow their children to play in the water helping to cool down their little bodies and allow them a little fun as well.

Cheryl stopped on the sidewalk as she pondered the appealing sound of the cool fountain water slapping the pavement. Her thoughts were pulled back to reality as she felt a drop of sweat running down the side of her face and seeing her skin glowing with sweat.

Cheryl made a spur of the moment decision. Quickly walking up to the arched fountain she kicked off her shoes. She stood at one end of the fountain and she began to skip and with her arms stretched out she twirled her way though the length of the fountain her bare feet slapping in the water pooling on the pavement.

The air was cooler in the water fountain tunnel and she was enjoying every drop of water that splashed on her hot skin. It seemed to evaporate as quickly as it landed on her skin. As she reached the end of the fountain she felt totally refreshed.

She slipped her wet feet into her shoes and continued on her way.
