Fandango’s Provocative Question #93 by Five Dot Oh
Provocative Question
Do you think that the government (federal and state) should break up Google for having a virtual monopoly in the search engine arena. If so, why? If not, why not?
Let me first say I am far from an expert in monopolies or what they are talking about why Google falls under this.
It is my understanding that a monopoly is a company that corners the market on a particular service and the consumer has no other choices. For this reason I don’t consider Google a monopoly.
Why, because as you stated there are other search engines that can be used. As you stated a few of these are Yahoo, Dutch Duck. Go, and Bing to name a few.
That being said, right or wrong I don’t consider Google a monopoly. As am example to what I am saying is I canister cable companies a monopoly.
I also consider electric and water companies monopolies. However, I can see why, due to the nature of these companies, why we wouldn’t want too many of them.
Is it Google’s fault that it has learned over the yers how to be one of the best search engine choices for most people over the years? Ok, so Google learned how to take advantage of ads and marketing.
What is keeping the other search engines from puttering their workers heads together and figuring out how to take advantage of marketing and ads? Google can not possibly be using every possible company.
So there you have my 10¢ worth.
I ❤️ love to hear your thoughts so please feel free to leave a comment , opinion, or feedback.

I actually agree with you. Google has earned its high market share because it’s the best overall search engine. End of story.
