24 Hour Blog Question by A Guy Called Bloke

To Tolerate Or Not Too Tolerant, That’s The Question!

I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion and biases. I am pretty tolerant of people’s opinion if it is in a somewhat private or private conversation. A conversation not in mixed company that includes anyone that is the target of the persons dislike.

Here is a true life example;

I was at a restaurant with a fiend and we were chatting and everything was going fine. We were nearly finished with our lunch when a Spanish couple was seated across from us.

Everything was still fine until their waitress appeared at their table to take their orders. The couple obviously did not speak much if any English. Their waitress was getting increasingly aggravated. With the aggravation came an increase in her voice volume until she was practically yelling. That was it….I couldn’t take it any longer.

The couple were looking increasingly upset. I speak very little Spanish. I stood up and told the waitress “No habla English!” She was caught off guard with my intrusion. As she looked at me confused I told her she needed to go find someone that spoke Spanish. With a huff she turned to find said waitress/waiter.

I turned to the couple and said. “ lo siento(I’m sorry).” The nodded at my friend and I as we walked out of the restaurant.

Obviously that’s where my tolerance of ones opinions or biases ends.

I ❤️ love to hear your thoughts so please feel free to leave a comment , opinion, or feedback.

  1. Not nice of the hostess or waitress. It is downright rude and I will not want to go back there, if I was the couple. They are customers and it is not right to be treated like that. I am so glad you interceded. I hope the couple managed to order and eat in peace.
