Can dogs be trained to be lie detectors based on their ability to scent fear?

First, I believe dogs are amazing animals. I also believe we really have no idea as to the extent to which they could help humans.

Here is the first thing I am thinking to the question of ”Do dogs react to the scent of human fear?” Just off the cuff, no. I believe when the dog is a long time companion it can detect many different things from there human counter part(basis on the relationship I have w/ my dog).

I may be wrong, but when police dogs search for a criminal who is on the run don’t they follow the scent of fear that a the criminal secrets?

I also think of the fact that there are dogs that can actually detect if a person has cancer or other sicknesses. Not to mention they detect several kinds of drugs and explosives.

Then we have service dogs that help people with a plethora of handicaps including but not limited to PTSD.

They provide physical and emotional support. The support they provide allows someone who is not dealing with life to a become a functioning part of their community.

At this stage I believe given the training a dog can be train to do almost anything. I am sure they have their limitations, but we have to learn what they are.
